Haute Couture Bodice Draping

Sculpt bias garments directly on the French dress form without flat pattern formulas.

Couture draping allows the fabric grain to guide the silhouette. Master true bias behavior, Grecian waterfall cowls, asymmetrical folds, and inner corsetry foundations.

Workshop Syllabus & Session Outputs

Day 1: Dress Form Preparation, Style Taping & True Bias Physics

Studio Output: Padded and style-taped French mannequin with grainline markers.

Day 2: Fluid Cowl Necklines & Asymmetric Hip Draping

Studio Output: Calico drape study translating dynamic drape onto flat paper patterns.

3

Day 3: Internal Understructure: Boning, Waiststay & Hand Finishing

Studio Output: Completed couture draped bodice with internal stay.

Materials & Atelier Tools

Provided by the Atelier:

  • Professional French dress forms for each student
  • Draping muslin, style tape, and push pins
  • Internal waist tape and spiral steel boning

Please Bring to Studio:

  • Fabric shears, tracing wheel, and note book
